Ford Fiesta: Parking Brake and Actuation / Parking Brake Cable. Removal and Installation

Removal
NOTE:

-
Remove the floor console.
Refer to: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).
-
Remove the parking brake cable adjustment lock nut.
-
Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut.
-
Remove the rear wheels and tires.
Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
-
On both sides.
Using a screwdriver, bend the cable union tabs upward.
Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver
-
On both sides.
Detach the rear parking brake cables from the cable unions.
-
On both sides.
Push inward on the tabs and detach the parking brake cables from the brackets.
-
Remove the nuts and the crossbrace.
-
Detach the exhaust isolators and lower the exhaust.
-
Remove the nuts and exhaust heat shield.
-
Remove the nuts and position the exhaust heat shield forward.
-
Remove the plug from the equalizer, push inward on the tabs and detach the LH and RH cables from the bracket.
-
-
Align the end of the front cable with the hole in the equalizer.
-
Rotate both rear cables upward.
-
Disconnect the front cable from the equalizer.
-
Detach the parking brake cable retainers. Remove the bracket nuts and the parking brake cable.
Installation
-
Attach the parking brake cable retainers and install the nuts.
Torque:
44 lb.in (5 Nm)
-
On both sides.
Attach the rear parking brake cables to the brackets.
-
On both sides.
Attach the rear parking brake cables to the cable unions.
-
On both sides.
-
Press the parking brake cable union tabs downward.
-
Make sure the rear parking brake cables are secured to the union.
-
Attach the front parking brake cable to the equalizer.
-
Attach the rear parking brake cables to the bracket and install the equalizer plug.
-
Position the exhaust heat shield and install the nuts.
-
Install the exhaust heat shield and the nuts.
-
Raise the exhaust and attach the exhaust isolators.
-
Install the crossbrace and the nuts.
Torque:
30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
-
On both sides.
Remove the brake drums.
-
On both sides.
Using the special tool, measure the inside diameter of the brake drums.
Use Special Service Tool: 206-D002

Gauge, Brake Adjustment.
-
-
Check to make sure the abutment on the parking brake levers are resting on the brake shoes.
-
Rotate the adjusters in or out as necessary to obtain the correct adjustment.
-
Using the special tool, make sure the brake shoes
are correctly adjusted. The brake shoe linings should make light contact
with the arms on the special tool.

Install a cable tie on the RH rear brake shoe and the parking brake lever.
-
Install a 2mm hex wrench between the abutment on the LH parking brake lever and the brake shoe.
-
Tighten the parking brake cable adjustment nut until the hex wrench falls.
-
Cut and remove the cable tie.
-
On both sides.
Install the brake drums.
-
Apply the parking brake, counting the positions until
the 11th position has been reached. Release the parking brake and repeat
4 times.
-

Make sure the parking brake is released.
-
Loosen the parking brake cable adjustment nut.
-
On both sides.
Remove the brake drums.
-
Install a cable tie on the RH rear brake shoe and the parking brake lever.
-
Install a 2mm hex wrench between the abutment on the LH parking brake lever and the brake shoe.
-
Tighten the parking brake cable adjustment nut until the hex wrench falls.
-
Cut and remove the cable tie.
-
On both sides.
Install the brake drums.
-
Install the wheels and tires.

Install the parking brake adjustment lock nut.
-
Install the floor console.
