Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N , position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the battery tray.
    Refer to: Battery Tray - 1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) – Sigma (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
    • Disconnect the gearshift cable ends from the ball studs of the transmission selector mechanism.
    • Slide the lock sleeve and remove the gearshift cables from the bracket.
  1. Detach the muffler isolator, remove and discard the muffler mounting nuts.
  1. Remove and discard the muffler gasket.
    1. Remove the nuts and the center support brace.
    • Remove the exhaust isolator.
    1. Remove the nuts and position aside the exhaust heat shield.
  1. Remove the nuts and the bracket holding cable.
  1. Remove the floor console.
    Refer to: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).
    • Disconnect the gearshift cable ends from the ball studs of the gearshift lever.
    • Slide the lock sleeve and remove the gearshift cables from the gearshift lever base.
  1. Release the retainers and remove gearshift cable mounting bracket.

Installation

  1. Install gearshift cable mounting bracket.
  1. Install the bracket holding cable and the nuts.
    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
    1. Install the exhaust heat shield and nuts.
    • Install the exhaust isolator.
    1. Install the center support brace and nuts.
      Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
  1. Install the new muffler gasket.
  1. Install the muffler isolator and the muffler mounting nuts.
    Torque: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)
    • Install the gearshift cables in the gearshift lever.
    • Connect the gearshift cable ends to the gearshift lever ball studs.
  1. Install the floor console.
    Refer to: Floor Console (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console, Removal and Installation).
    • Slide the lock sleeve and install the gearshift cables in the bracket.
    • Connect the gearshift cable ends to the ball studs of the transmission selector mechanism.
  1. Adjust the gearshift cables.
    Refer to: Gearshift Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Manual Transmission – B6 (308-06 Manual Transmission External Controls - 5-Speed Manual Transmission – B5/IB5/6-Speed Manual Transmission – B6, General Procedures).
  1. Install the battery tray.
    Refer to: Battery Tray - 1.6L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) – Sigma (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
